Microsuction ear wax removal

Safe, effective ear wax removal carried out by experienced audiologists using the latest microsuction technology.

At Simply Hear, our experienced audiologists provide a professional and efficient microsuction ear wax removal service.

Microsuction is a safe, quick and highly effective method of removing ear wax using gentle suction under direct visual guidance. The procedure is typically completed within 20 to 30 minutes and is performed by a qualified audiologist in a controlled, medical environment. Most patients experience immediate relief and clearer hearing following the appointment.

Your appointment guide

Your microsuction appointment in three steps.

Step 1 - Consultation and examination

Your appointment begins with a short consultation where we take a brief medical history and ask about any ear-related symptoms you have been experiencing. We will then examine your ears to assess the level of wax build-up and check for any signs of infection or other issues. Before proceeding, we will talk you through the procedure and ask you to complete a consent form.

Step 2 - Microsuction procedure

The audiologist will use a gentle suction device and a high-powered microscope to safely and accurately remove the wax from your ear canal. The process is carefully controlled to ensure effective results.

Step 3 - Aftercare and advice

Once the procedure is complete, a final check will be carried out to ensure the ears are clear. If any follow-up care is recommended, personalised advice will be provided. Most individuals notice an immediate improvement in hearing and overall comfort.

Microsuction is a safe and effective method of ear wax removal that uses a gentle suction device to carefully remove wax from the ear canal. It does not use water, making it a quick and precise treatment for blocked ears, hearing loss caused by wax and discomfort.

Microsuction is not routinely available on the NHS in many areas of the UK. Some GP practices and NHS audiology services may offer it, and it is also sometimes available through ENT services, usually when there is a medical need or referral. However, access varies depending on local provision and waiting times. As a result, many people choose private treatment for faster access. At Simply Hear, we offer microsuction appointments with no GP referral required.

Microsuction is widely considered the safest method of ear wax removal when carried out by a trained professional. It allows direct visual control throughout the procedure which helps to minimise risk.

At Simply Hear, microsuction costs £75. This includes a full ear examination to assess whether treatment is appropriate, followed by professional wax removal if suitable.

Using olive oil drops before microsuction can help soften earwax and may make removal easier, but it is not always necessary. If possible, we recommend using olive oil for two to four days before your appointment unless you have been advised otherwise.
