What we offer

Ear wax removal specialists with years of experience and a genuine commitment to care. We are able to remove ear wax safely using the following three methods.

Microsuction is a quick, effective way of removing wax build up in your ear/s. Using a microscope our audiologists are able to look directly into the ear canal to ensure that your ears are cleared safely and efficiently. A sterile suction device is used to gently remove the wax.

Ear wax irrigation is the process of removing wax from the ear canal using a warm, smooth flow of water into the ear that gently flushes out the ear wax. The water is administered at a controlled pressure via an irrigation machine.

Ear wax, which is also known as cerumen, is a waxy oil substance in the ear canal. Ear wax itself is a combination of secretions by glands in the ear canal mixing with dead hair and skin cells. Ear wax is important as it keeps the ear lubricated and provides protection against bacteria and infection.

If ear wax is building up, it is advisable to use ear wax softening drops or olive oil. This method may soften the wax enough to aid natural expulsion. If this is unsuccessful, the wax will have to be removed by a professional using clinical methods such as microsuction and irrigation.

The ear is self-cleaning and ear wax should clear naturally. If ear wax is not causing a problem then it should be left alone. Sometimes ear wax can build up and block the ear. This can be due to a number of reasons such as; if the person has hairy or narrow ear canals or if the ear wax is being pushed back down the canal, for example by cotton buds or hearing aids. Hard impacted ear wax and excessive build up can cause hearing loss, earache, itchiness, dizziness and tinnitus.

At Simply Hear we are trained in a number of different methods of ear wax removal. Each method is effective at removing ear wax. Which method we use depends on a number of different factors. A decision will be made on which method to use based on your history and an examination of your ear/s.

We do not recommend using a cotton swab to clean your ears as they are likely to do more harm than good. They tend to push ear wax deeper into the ear canal causing it to become compacted which in turn makes it harder to remove.
